AF Post announces that Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ 2” will begin filming in 2025. Naturally, the replies are peak internet.
Breaking Point USA: “He’s dead, the Romans crucified him. They’re gonna make a movie about a dead guy?”
Daily Roman U…: “I’ve got great news.”
Gorgocutie says:
The beautiful thing about this tweet is that the reply implies the first movie was about a living guy having a bad Friday afternoon. My brother in Christ, the original “The Passion of the Christ” (2004) was also about the same dead guy. That was kind of the whole point. The title literally refers to the final hours of his life. The sequel will reportedly focus on the resurrection — which, if you’re unfamiliar with the story, is the part where the dead guy stops being dead.
Also, “I’ve got great news” as a reply to a Passion sequel announcement is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Could be sarcastic. Could be sincere. Could be someone who knows how the story ends and is trying not to spoil it for the Romans.
