
Nolan’s Odyssey continues. Here we see Odysseus washed ashore on Scheria, about to meet Nausicaa. In most versions, this is a tender scene of hospitality and human connection.
In Nolan’s version, Nausicaa will be played by a de-aged actress, Odysseus will have a beard that ages in reverse throughout the film, and the beach will be revealed in the third act to be a beach from his childhood memories projected onto a collapsing space-time event horizon.
The sirens? They’re not singing. They’re reciting exposition about entropy. The cyclops? Not a monster — he’s a time-displaced version of Telemachus who went blind from staring at the eclipse that happens when Penelope finally remarries.
