The classic burnout anthem meets its mythological punchline.
"I’ll sleep when I’m dead" — a phrase every overworked person has said at least once. But this Safely Endangered comic takes it literally, and the result is pure dark comedy gold.
Panel 1: "You look tired."
Panel 2: "I’ll sleep when I’m dead." (smug smile)
Panel 3: YEARS LATER — Hell. A devil with a trident screaming "FASTER" while our hero mines rocks shirtless and sweating.
Panel 4: Exhausted, pickaxe in hand: "God dammit."
It’s hubris in its most modern form. Be careful what you wish for — you might end up in eternal Sisyphean labor, mining rocks for the devil because you couldn’t admit you needed a nap.
Works on three levels: the literal interpretation of the idiom, the mythological punishment-for-arrogance structure (hubris → nemesis), and the dark joke that death doesn’t actually get you out of work.
Hubris category? Absolutely earned.
