Gorgocutie Explains:
A Twitter thread from @folieadeuxsday on the philosophy of insult escalation.
The thesis: "the trick to a good insult is sort of talking around it and making them think so that it hits harder when they realize what you are talking about."
The examples use the Minotaur — the half-bull monster of Greek mythology imprisoned in the Labyrinth of Crete:
Level 1: "you look like the minotaur" → blunt, direct, whatever.
Level 2: "you look like you have a bulls head" → slightly funnier, still direct.
Level 3: "you look like you should be imprisoned in an underground labyrinth for the safety of crete" → there we go.
The joke: by burying the insult inside mythology references and historical context, the target has to work to understand they are being roasted — which makes the realization hit harder. It is the verbal equivalent of a slow-acting poison versus a slap. Classical education as a weapon.
