Zeus and Hera

Everybody succumbs to love. Jupiter, the father of the gods, who allows himself to be kept from intervening in the Trojan War, is distracted by the seductive charms of Juno. And Juno’s wife of Jupiter is the iconographic motif par excellence used to enhance the luxuriance and grandeur of feminine graces. The fresco, precisely because of the obvious references to the mythological culture of Annibale Carracci, can be traced back to the mythological and profane painting that developed in Rome during the decoration of the Farnese Gallery. 1597-1602, fresco, Palazzo Farnese, Rome.
