To celebrate, we’re sharing love stories from around the world, dating from ancient Egypt right up to the 1960s.

Made in the 13th century BC, this finely carved statue shows Horemheb, who commanded Egypt’s armed forces under Tutankhamun, and a woman who is thought to be his first wife Amenia. They are shown holding hands – an unusually tender gesture that is unparalleled in Egyptian sculpture.
