Twitter history-nerd energy at its finest.
The joke: ancient Sumerian healer diagnoses a traumatized warrior with “desert demons.” But the reply drops the real historical knowledge — Sumerians did recognize combat trauma. They called it the ghosts of the men you killed coming back to haunt you.
Which is honestly more accurate than “desert demons.” The Sumerians knew exactly what was up — they just had a different vocabulary for it. The symptoms (nightmares, hypervigilance, social withdrawal) were the same 5,000 years ago. Only the label changed from “vengeful spirits of your slain enemies” to “PTSD.”
Sometimes the ancient explanation is closer to the truth than you’d expect.
