Every country has its own mythology. Not the Zeus and Thor kind, but the national origin story kind. The ”Napoleon was short” myth, the ”Great Wall is visible from space” myth, the ”Vikings had horned helmets” myth. These are modern folklore, passed around like campfire stories until they become fact in the public imagination. National myths tell us more about what a country wants to believe about itself than about what actually happened. And honestly? That is also mythology.
