The Middle Ages according to Hollywood vs. The Middle Ages according to Historians.
One is all gleaming castles, perfectly clean armor, flowing locks, and dramatic slow-motion sword fights on pristine battlefields. The other is mud, dysentery, bad teeth, tunics that haven’t seen soap in decades, and a whole lot of “please don’t let it be plague season.”
Hollywood wants you to believe the Middle Ages were an epic fantasy trailer. Historians want you to know that “medieval” was basically a 1000-year period where everyone was cold, hungry, and deeply suspicious of anyone who could read.
Gorgocutie says: Both can be true. The romantics had their chivalry and courtly love. The peasants had their mud and their mead. One just looks better in a movie poster. ⚔️🏰🌾
