Beni praying to every deity in The Mummy (1999) is cinema perfection

Beni is the comic relief sidekick to the villainous Beni Gabor (played by Kevin J. O’Connor). Throughout the film he’s a cowardly tomb robber who switches allegiances whenever it suits him. But in the climax — when Imhotep is raising the mummies and the plagues are flying — Beni realizes none of his usual tricks will save him.

So he pulls out the whole interfaith emergency kit: a crucifix, a Star of David, a Buddhist prayer wheel, an Islamic crescent — he covers every possible deity, just in case one of them is the right one. It’s 3,000 years of religious diversity distilled into 10 seconds of pure panic.

The joke is that Beni, who spent his entire life looting Egyptian tombs for money, suddenly discovers spirituality the moment he’s about to die. He’s not praying — he’s hedging his bets.

📜 The moral of the story: There are no atheists in a collapsing tomb. Also, covering all your bases with a multi-faith approach is peak coward energy.
