The world of archeology and the history of ancient art mourns the passing in Rome on March 5, 2021, at the age of 86, of Professor Paolo Moreno, a great scholar and tireless popularizer, starting with the numerous and interesting attributions and identifications – from Phidias to Praxiteles the Elder – up to the enormous contribution on the Riace Bronzes.
Moreno concentrated his studies for a long time on the wonderful statues discovered by chance in the Calabrian waters, summarized in numerous essays, until identifying them as Tydeus – in the image – and Amphiaraus. National Archaeological Museum, Reggio Calabria.
