The joke: Pyrrhus (319-272 BCE) was unquestionably one of the most brilliant generals of the ancient world. He defeated the Romans at Heraclea and Asculum (though at such cost that "Pyrrhic victory" entered the lexicon), conquered Macedonia, and fought across southern Italy and Sicily. Hannibal himself ranked Pyrrhus as the second-greatest general in history (after Alexander).

But Pyrrhus died in Argos during a street battle — an old woman watching from her rooftop threw a roof tile that knocked him off his horse, where he was then killed by enemy soldiers. One of antiquity’s greatest military minds, defeated by a granny and a piece of terracotta.
