Lycurgus

In this 1828 painting, the French artist Merry-Joseph Blondel, in his series on the legislators of antiquity, imagines Lycurgus, a character of uncertain historicity and dating, to whom, by tradition, the elaboration of the law that established the political order of Sparta.
