#Τελέσιλλα (#Telesilla, fl. 510 B.C.) was an ancient #Hellenic #poet from #Argos. She was renowned for her #poetry, and for her #leadership of Argos through a #political and #military crisis against #Sparta in 494-493 B.C.
A #Pythian #priestess predicted that the female should conquer the male, and many believed she referring to Τελέσιλλα. This #oracle is quoted by #Pausanias:
“The time shall come that the female conquers in battle, driving away the male, and wins great glory in Argos.”
