Favorite pupil of Charles van Loo, the Parisian painter Louis Jean François Lagrenée, in March 1744, at the age of twenty, he was admitted to the School of “protected pupils” and sent to Rome. In 1755 he was welcomed as a member of the Royal Academy of painting and sculpture thanks to one of his canvases: “The abduction of Deianeira by the centaur Nessus”, now in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
