MY LIFE IS A FAIRY TALE
BUT THE AUTHOR IS GERMAN
Illustration: a blonde woman in a red-and-blue dress engulfed in flames, arms raised, with two small grey cats panicking on either side. Storybook style. Very German.
This is the entire Grimm project summarized in one meme. The Brothers Grimm collected 200+ fairy tales and the common thread is: children abandoned in the woods, hands chopped off, eyes pecked out, witches burned alive, and at least one person cooked and served as dinner. ‘Fairy tale’ in German doesn’t mean cute; it means ‘be careful what you wish for, the forest is full of teeth.’
Disney took these stories and put sparkling dresses on them. The originals are horror movies with a moral. Cinderella’s stepsisters get their eyes pecked out by doves. The little mermaid dies. Hansel and Gretel push a witch into an oven. And the gingerbread house? A trap. It was always a trap.
So when your life is a fairy tale and the author is German: expect cannibalism, divine punishment, and a forest that wants to eat you. And if you see a cottage made of candy — run. The cats know what’s coming. Look at them. They’ve read the source material.
