The famous mythological subject developed by Anthony Van Dick, with Chronos cutting the wings of Eros, is a metaphor for Time winning over Love. The painter replicated it on at least three occasions. In addition to the version of the Statens Museum for Kunst, we find those of 1640, respectively preserved in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and in the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris, in the image.
